About Unsettled

Unsettled is an independent archive of first-person testimonies from Israelis who left the country, broke with Zionism, or both.

Why this exists

Israelis who step away from the story they were raised in rarely find each other. Their accounts are scattered across books, interviews and private conversations, and many keep silent for years because they believe they are alone.

We want to change that. Unsettled gathers these stories in one place, verifies them, and publishes them in English, Hebrew and Spanish — so that people who are questioning can hear from those who walked the same path, and so that the wider public can hear these voices from inside Israeli society.

What you will find here

  • Testimonies — interviews we conduct ourselves, after verifying each person’s identity and history.
  • Public voices — people who have already spoken out in public, summarised in our own words with links to the original sources.
  • Turning points — the moment in each story when things changed, indexed so they can be read side by side.

What we stand for

We believe it takes courage to question the story you were given, and that the people who do so deserve to be heard with respect.

Our criticism is directed at Zionism as a political ideology and at the policies carried out in its name. It is never directed at Jewish people. We reject antisemitism and every other form of racism, and we will not publish content that promotes hatred against any people.

We do not speak for the people we interview. Each testimony is a personal account, told in the contributor’s own words and approved by them before publication.

Independence

Unsettled is an independent project. It is self-funded and receives no money from governments, political parties or lobby groups. We never pay for testimonies, so that no one can claim they were bought.
